CT Defensive roles
CTAncient
Usually starts on Mid / Donut / A Site. Can change roles with the Mid player or AWPer between rounds (ultimately decided by utility, spawn and the strat being played). Can also start on B to create false information or bait setups. Often responsible for dropping or reallocating utility across the map (Mid and B smokes) since A setups commonly rely more on retake structure, positioning and early damage than on heavy utility investment.
Read guideCTAncient
Usually starts around Mid, Donut, Window, A Site, B Lane, Cave or occasionally deeper site angles depending on spawn, opponent tendencies and the defensive setup. Can change responsibilities with the Mid player, A Anchor, B Anchor or rotator between rounds, especially when the team wants to contest Mid, deny Red Room control, support B Lane or play a more passive pick-oriented round. In this slot, the player defines how freely Ts can take space on Ancient: the AWPer can slow Mid, punish B Lane pressure, control Donut timings and force the T side to spend utility before building a clean split.

Usually starts on B Site. Can occasionally start near Mid to support fights, create false information or provoke reactions across the map. Efficient utility management matters here because the player often needs to preserve smokes for B entrances, enabling info plays or delaying map control. Molotovs can punish or slow T control around B Lane, alongside the classic Ramp anti-rush utility.

Usually starts around Cave, B Lane, B Site or Ramp-side support positions depending on spawn, utility and the defensive setup. Can change responsibilities with the B Anchor, Mid player or rotator between rounds, especially when the team wants to contest B Lane, deny Cave control, create early pressure or play a more retake-oriented B setup. Cave control can make B hits much harder to build, but losing the Cave player too early can open the entire bombsite and give Ts a strong post-plant structure.

Usually starts around Mid, Donut, Window, Red Room or close to A depending on spawn, utility and the opening setup. Can change responsibilities with the AWPer, A Anchor or B players between rounds, especially when the team wants to contest Mid, fake pressure, support a lane fight or rotate earlier toward one of the bombsites. Losing Mid control can split the defense apart, but overcommitting to Mid can leave A or B exposed before the round has developed.

TAncient
Usually starts around A Main, T Spawn, Second Mid routes, Red Room support timings or late Donut connections depending on the strat being played. Can change responsibilities with the Mid player, A entry or lurker between rounds, especially when the team wants to pressure A Main, support Mid control, fake presence or punish CT rotations. The A-side assignment also often works as a quiet pressure point that keeps the CT A side honest while the rest of the map develops.

Usually starts around T Spawn, Top Mid, Red Room, A Main, B Ramp or late Donut / Cave timings depending on spawn, default structure and the opening plan. Can change responsibilities with the Mid playmaker, B playmaker, A extremity or lurker between rounds, especially when the team wants to punish CT aggression, pressure Mid, hold rotations or create a pick before committing to either bombsite. Opening kills matter, and the T-side AWPer controls how freely CTs can fight Mid, re-peek Donut, contest B Lane or rotate through CT paths.

CT Defensive roles
CTAnubis
Usually starts around A Site, Heaven, Default, Connector-side or A Main pressure positions depending on the setup. Can change responsibilities with the Mid / Connector player or AWPer between rounds, depending on spawn, utility and the amount of early control the CT side wants to contest. The player has to balance A Main control, site survival and fast rotation awareness: giving up A too early can make plants difficult to deny, but overfighting A Main can leave the site exposed before rotations are ready.
Read guideCTAnubis
Usually starts around Mid, Bridge, A Heaven, A Main angles, B Site lines, Water or Connector depending on spawn, opponent tendencies and the CT setup. Can change responsibilities with the Mid player, A Anchor, B Anchor or rotator between rounds, especially when the team wants early information, passive control or a strong first contact on one side of the map. In this slot, the player defines how much freedom Ts have to take Mid, Water and site entrances: the AWPer can slow the default without needing to overfight every round.

Usually starts around B Site, B Main, Pillar, Temple or Water-side support positions depending on the setup. Can occasionally start closer to Water or Connector to support early fights, create false information or help deny map control before returning to B. The player in the role has to manage pressure from multiple timings: direct B hits, Water splits and late Connector pressure can all turn the site into a difficult hold if the anchor gives up space too easily or wastes utility too early.

Usually starts around Connector, B Site, Water, Temple-side routes or Mid/B rotation paths depending on spawn, utility and the defensive setup. Can change responsibilities with the B Anchor, Mid Rotator, AWPer or A players between rounds, especially when the team wants to contest Connector, support Water fights, reinforce B or stay flexible between both bombsites. It protects B from splits, supports Mid control and helps the team rotate without leaving the bombsite completely isolated.

Usually starts around Mid, Bridge, Connector, Heaven-side routes, Water support positions or close to either bombsite depending on spawn, utility and the defensive setup. Can change responsibilities with the AWPer, A Anchor, B Anchor or site rotators between rounds, especially when the team wants to contest Mid, support Water fights, deny Connector control or rotate quickly between bombsites. Mid information decides whether the defense can stay balanced, reinforce the correct site or stop Ts from turning map control into a clean split.

CT Defensive roles
CTCache
Usually works from A Site, Quad, Default, Fork or another position that can see A Main or Squeaky without giving both entrances the same duel. The assignment is to keep the site playable, preserve enough utility for the actual hit and tell the rotator whether A pressure is contact, a set execute or a late fake. Forward A Main control can be useful, but the anchor's value often comes from surviving the first wave and forcing the attackers to clear a second angle before they can plant.
Read guideCTCache
The CT AWPer can begin at Mid, the A cross, Highway, B Halls or a deeper site line. The weapon's presence changes which lanes the T side can cross cheaply, but the assignment is not tied to one opening peek. The player must pick a supported first angle, keep a route out and reposition before the attackers can isolate the rifle with utility and trade spacing.
Read guideCTCache
Usually starts around B Site, Headshot, Back Site, Checkers-side or another line that can delay a B Halls burst. The B anchor may spend much of the round alone, so utility order and survival matter more than constant activity. The player must distinguish a single contact from a committed hit, keep Checkers in the mental picture and give the rotator enough time to arrive through CT or Connector.
Read guideCTCache
Usually operates between Connector, CT, Checkers support, Z and the routes linking Mid to B. The rotator keeps the B anchor from becoming isolated while still helping the team contest or recover Mid. Good rounds in this slot are built on restraint: moving early enough to matter, but not so early that a sound cue or one grenade empties the other half of the map.
Read guideCTCache
Usually starts around Mid, White Box, Highway, Z or Connector. This player owns the first central read and must keep Garage pressure, Boost and late vent or Highway routes connected in one picture. Winning Mid can compress the T default, but staying exposed after the advantage is gained can hand the space straight back and weaken both sites.
Read guideT T-side roles
TCache
Usually works from A Main, Squeaky or the A-side edge of the default. The extremity keeps CTs from taking free information, preserves a credible late A finish and gives the team a player who can punish rotations after Mid or B pressure. The assignment may become first entry, second contact, lurk or bomb escort, depending on spawn and the round call.
Read guideTCache
The T AWPer can open from Garage, Mid, A Main, B Halls or another spawn-supported line. The weapon should make CT aggression expensive and give riflers room to establish the default, but it still needs a trade plan and a route out. A quiet held angle can be more useful than an unsupported peek if it prevents the defense from re-clearing or rotating through a long lane.
Read guideTCache
Usually starts around B Halls, Sun Room or the B-side edge of the default. This player protects the team from a B push, keeps the anchor occupied and preserves a route for a late hit or split through Checkers. Quiet rounds still demand attention because the value of the slot comes from controlling what the CTs know, not from taking a duel every thirty seconds.
Read guideTCache
Usually starts around Garage, Boost, Top Mid or the first route toward White Box. The Primary Mid player takes responsibility for the opening central space and gives the rest of the team a readable fight to support. The job is not to run through Mid at every opportunity. It is to turn spawn, utility and teammate spacing into control that can be held, traded and converted into Highway, Vent, Connector or a reset.
Read guideTCache
Usually starts behind or beside the Primary Mid player around Garage, Boost support and Top Mid. The second layer makes the central fight sustainable: it supplies the flash, clears the trade, protects the boost and inherits space if the first player falls. Good spacing is narrow enough to trade but wide enough that one grenade or spray cannot stop both players.

CT Defensive roles
CTDust2
Usually starts around Long, Car or A Site. Can play as the main Long defender, the A Site anchor or a supportive piece for the AWPer / Short player depending on spawn, utility and the team's opening plan. The player has to balance space and survival: fighting Long can win the round early, but dying alone can leave A exposed to both Long and Short pressure. Can also start closer to CT or Mid to disguise the setup, support Catwalk control or prepare a more retake-oriented round.
Read guideCTDust2
Usually starts around A Site, Ramp, Short, CT Spawn or Long support positions depending on spawn, utility and the opening setup. Can change responsibilities with the Long player, A Anchor, AWPer or Mid rotator between rounds, especially when the team wants to contest Catwalk, support Long fights or stay ready to rotate toward B through CT. In this slot, the player connects A defense with the rest of the map: it has to help against A pressure without becoming trapped too early, while still being ready to react when Mid or B becomes the real threat.
Read guideCTDust2
Usually starts around Mid Doors, Long, A Site, CT Spawn or B-side angles depending on spawn, team setup and the opponent's tendencies. Can change responsibilities with the A players, Mid rotator or B support depending on whether the CT side wants early picks, passive control, Catwalk denial or fast information. Opening kills matter, and the AWPer controls the pace of the CT side, decides which lanes are dangerous for Ts to cross and forces the round to develop around his presence.
Read guideCTDust2
Usually starts on B Site, B Doors or Window. The player in the role has to manage isolation better than almost any other Dust2 CT position, since bad utility timing or poor positioning can turn B into a free bombsite very quickly. Can occasionally start closer to Mid to support early fights, throw utility for Mid control or create false information before falling back into B. Utility discipline often decides whether the anchor gets overwhelmed or buys enough time for rotations.

Can change responsibilities with the B Anchor, A player or AWPer between rounds, especially when the team wants to contest Mid, support B, watch Catwalk or stay ready for fast rotations. In this slot, the player connects Dust2's entire CT side: it has to protect B from splits, help A against Catwalk pressure and keep enough Mid information so the team does not rotate blind.

CT Defensive roles
CTInferno
Usually starts around A Site, Pit, Balcony or Apartments. Can change responsibilities with the Short / Arch player depending on spawn, utility and the defensive setup being played. The player has to balance survival, space denial and late-round impact: fighting Apartments too much can give Ts a free trade, but giving it up too early can make the A site extremely hard to hold. Utility management is also important, since flashbangs, molotovs and smokes can delay Apps pops, support Mid fights or buy time for rotations when Banana pressure pulls teammates away.

Usually starts around B Site, Monster, Barrels, Pillar, Water or Short-side support positions. Can occasionally start closer to Water or Connector to help early map control before falling back into the bombsite. The player in the role has to manage some of the fastest and most punishing pressure on Overpass: Monster hits, Short splits and Water control can collapse B very quickly if the anchor wastes utility or gives up the wrong timing. The main job is to delay, survive and make the entry path as uncomfortable as possible.

Usually starts around Connector, Bathrooms, A Site, CT Spawn, Water support or B rotation paths depending on spawn, utility and the setup being played. Can change responsibilities with the AWPer, A Rifle, B Anchor or Short player between rounds, especially when the team wants to contest Connector, support A control, reinforce B or stay flexible between both bombsites. The player in the role is the defensive bridge of Overpass: it has to read map pressure early enough to help, but not so early that one side collapses for free.

Usually starts around Water, Short, Sandbags, B Site, Pillar or Connector-side support positions depending on spawn, utility and the defensive setup. Can change responsibilities with the B Anchor, Monster player, Connector rotator or AWPer between rounds, especially when the team wants to contest Water, support Monster control or stay ready against B splits. It protects the anchor from being isolated and makes Short / Water control expensive for the T side.

TOverpass
Usually starts around T Spawn, Fountain, Playground, Party, Bathrooms, Long or late Connector support routes depending on spawn and the default. Can change responsibilities with the Connector playmaker, B extremity or AWPer between rounds, especially when the team wants to pressure A control, punish CT aggression or hold rotations while B pressure develops. This player keeps the A side of Overpass dangerous even when the final hit is not A.

Usually starts around T Spawn, Fountain, Playground, Outside B, Connector or Party depending on spawn, default structure and the opening plan. Can change responsibilities with riflers between rounds, especially when the team wants to pressure Bathrooms, punish Connector aggression, hold rotations or create a pick before committing to a bombsite. The opening kill matters, and the T-side AWPer controls defensive movement by threatening long sightlines, punishing CT aggression and forcing rotations to respect every angle.

Usually starts around Outside B, Monster, Short, Water, Connector routes or late Playground rotation paths depending on the default and final plan. Can change responsibilities with the B entry, Connector player or A lurker between rounds, especially when the team wants to pressure Water, hold CT aggression, create a late B timing or punish rotations. The B extremity also keeps the B side of the map dangerous while the rest of the team works A control, Connector or a slow default.

Usually starts around T Spawn, Connector entrance, Stairs, Water support routes or late Bathrooms/B links depending on spawn and the opening plan. Can change responsibilities with the A extremity, B extremity or AWPer between rounds, especially when the team wants to split the map, punish CT information plays or create uncertainty between both bombsites. Connector control can become A pressure, B pressure, flank denial or a late rotation cut.

Usually starts around T Spawn, Connector support routes, Fountain, Playground, Water or late A/B rotation paths depending on spawn and the default. Can change responsibilities with the A extremity, B extremity, Connector playmaker or AWPer between rounds, especially when the team wants to apply pressure across both sides of the map. The player is a flexible connector: it protects the default from CT aggression, supports fights that need an extra body and arrives late where rotations are weakest.

CT Defensive roles
CTTrain
Usually works around the A Main entrance and the nearby outer-yard trains, with depth changing according to spawn, weapon and the Popdog, Ivy and AWPer setup. This player denies a clean T Main exit, counts how much support is behind the first contact and keeps the inner A lanes from collapsing at once. The role can fight forward, hold a train-side crossfire or fall toward the site, but every choice must stay connected to at least one teammate.

Usually starts around Popdog and the adjacent A-site train lanes. The assignment controls the ladder drop, supports outer-yard fights and provides a short route between information and impact. Sound can arrive before vision, so the player must separate a real drop from pressure designed to hold the position while Ts work T Main or Ivy.

The CT AWPer may begin toward T Main, Ivy, Popdog, the outer yard, B Halls or a deeper line between the sites. Train rewards long sightlines, but it also punishes an AWP that becomes predictable or trapped between trains. The player should choose an angle the rifles can protect, take information or a duel, then relocate before utility closes the route.

Usually starts around the B trains, the upper and lower entrances, Oil, Back Site or a Connector-facing fallback. The B anchor must read two heights, delay the plant route and survive long enough for rotations to cross a difficult site. Early utility can stop a rush, but using it without a cue leaves the anchor exposed to the late contact rounds that Train encourages.

Usually controls Ivy from a forward line, a train-side crossfire or a deeper outer-yard position. The player protects a long flank into A and owns information that can release teammates toward T Main, Popdog or B. Ivy can be quiet for most of a round and still decide the finish, so discipline matters more than constant re-peeking.

TTrain
Usually starts in or near T Main and carries the direct outer-yard pressure. The player must clear the close CT aggression, create room between the trains and stay connected to Popdog and Ivy so the A attack reaches the site as a split rather than three separate fights. Depending on spawn and call, the slot can be first contact, trade, bomb escort or a late pressure piece.

The T AWPer can work from T Main, Ivy, Popdog support, B Halls or another line created by the default. Train offers long duels, but most of them are poor without close-angle coverage and an escape. The weapon should punish CT aggression, pin defenders behind trains and cover the routes riflers need to cross, then arrive at a post-plant angle tied to the bomb.
Read guideTTrain
Usually controls the B-side edge of the default from the upper or lower approach and nearby halls. The extremity protects against a CT information push, keeps the B anchor occupied and preserves a late route that can become a contact hit, full execute or rotation punish. Because the player is often separated from the main group, every duel needs a clear purpose and a plan for the bomb.
Read guideTTrain
Usually starts toward Ivy and owns the long A-side extremity. The player denies a free CT push, draws attention away from T Main and creates a flank or split route into the outer yard. Ivy pressure can remain quiet for a long time, but it must stay synchronized with the team's control elsewhere or the player becomes easy to isolate behind utility.
Read guideTTrain
Usually works around the ladder room and the route into A. Popdog gives the T side a compact central threat: it can support outer-yard control, punish a CT information play or become the middle point of a T Main and Ivy split. The narrow drop is dangerous, so the player must use sound, utility and teammate pressure to avoid arriving as a free isolated duel.
